Default Wheel size on a 65???

I'm on a time restricted computer in the library so don't have time to search.

I've got the KO's on my car now. I'm going to probably have to go wider in the rear. What size can I run and is there a specific backspace required to increase the wheel width? I'd like to bump it up to an 8 inch wide wheel at the minimum. Am thinking about the new aluminum Cragar S/S that have just come out in the 15 inch wheel size.

One other thing, if I drop from a "70" series tire down to a "60" series tire, wouldn't that give me slightly more tire clearance? If I did this, can I stay with a 15 inch rim or should I up to a 16 inch rim. I personally don't care for the midyears with a 17/18 inch rim on them. Just doesn't look right to me. Not knocking others who have done it, it just isn't for me.

If need be is there an easy way to lift the rear about 3/4's of an inch or so for clearance. Thanks guys....

Outlaw -- On my '66 coupe, I'm running 16" American TT IIs with 235/55x16s with no problems. I believe the backspacing is 4", and I think the wheels may be 8" wide but they may only be 7". I had to do a minor trim on the inner lip on one rear fender, everything else clears just fine.

Mine are chrome. PM me and I will give you the email address for Landon. He has a wheel shop in Los Angeles and will give forum members a good deal.

I saw those at the national Hot Rod show in Louisville about five weeks or so ago. They are beautiful. They are now available in 15 and 16 inch sizes.

I like my KO's but I'll need more meat in the rear when I get my 383 stroker installed.
