62 windshield wiper motor ?

62 windshield wiper motor ?
HI..... I recently pruchased a 62 that had been stored for 5 years and all the electricals were not working. Fixed all except the wiper. Am attempting to understand its wiring since it is different from my 62 wiring diagram. My 62 diagram shows 4 wires (2 to the wiper switch and one to the ign switch) and a ground.... similar to the C2's. However, my wiper motor has only one purple wire and nothing else. The wiper switch is a cable that terminates at the wiper. I looked at the wiring diagram for the 61 and it the same as the 62.
Question: is this a 62 wiper or one from another year? Would appreciate any assistance in identifying this wiper motor and how to troubleshoot it. Have looked at past post but have not found anything that helped.
Thanks Walt

Without looking at the car: my 62 wiper motor has one brown wire and it gets power from the 12 volt side of the ballast resistor.
Is it possible that your wiring diagram is the wrong year?

Here's what a 62 wiper motor looks like and how it is connected. There are no wires going to a 62 wiper switch at the dash, only a cable and a vacuum hose
It almost sounds like your wiring diagram is maybe for a generic 62 chevy passenger car.

ALL C1 cars have just one wire going to the wiper motor and the switch is on the motor not on the dash. A Bowden cable comes from the **** on the dash and slides the switch on top of the motor. The power comes from the ignition circuit and the wire terminates on the incoming side of the ballast resistor. Sounds to me like you are looking a passenger car diagram, or later Corvette diagram. Only one wire on a C1 wiper motor, and it is brown.

HI... thanks Mick3, 62jeff and John..... Looks like I must have an incorrect diagram. However, its what I used to troubleshoot the rest of the electrical problems I had. The power is from the 12 volt side of the ballast... so that much is correct. I got a link from this forum pointing to corvette wiring diagrams. Anyway, thanks all for the info.
62Jeff... thanks for the picture of the wiper...... My wiper looks like yours except it does not have the **** like piece attached to a vachuum tube. Do I need this to make this work??What is its function.... Tx Walt

That is part of the washer system. If your car is not equipped with washers, it will not need one. If it is, good luck finding one that will actually work.

The wiring diagram DOES show 4 wires to the wiper motor but that is misleading....I believe the Bowden cable from the switch 'makes' the electrical connection AT THE MOTOR. There is NO wire to the ignition switch...the motor is 'switched' through the ignition switch by default since its power comes off the ballast resistor. I believe this is correct although its been a while since I've diddled around in that area...

Tx John and fdreano....... I do not have a washer on my car so I guess I will not need the washer pump. I have been looking at the old post and have learned a lot about my wiper motor and how it works. Thanks again guys............ Tx walt

There's a whole section on the wiper motor on pages 12-4 thru 12-10 in the ST-12; mounting, operation, circuits, internal switch operation, troubleshooting, etc.

'62s (and '61s) had washer systems as standard equipment although you may be missing the vacuum tank and fluid reservoir. These systems are troublesome so many owners just snatched them out...

PS..... based on all the info I got through u guys..... i was able to get the wiper to work. The switch on the wiper was the problem.

Good for you! These wipers are one of the more fragile systems on the car...what with the 'contact points' inside the motor for the two speeds and the zany cable and pulley system under the dash. Mine work perfectly but I try to never use them...just 'exercise' them every few months.

BTW... i noticed I am now listed as a senior member ...... wonder when that change took place..... ?? what does that mean ????

Well - I spoke too fast....my washers didn't operate on the way home from a car show tonight. D@mn - I hate to mess with those things...and yes there is water in the reservoir. I'll worry about it next week...
