Default Can anyone explain this Barret Jackson sale? 64 base coupe 76k?

Base engine silver/silver AC coupe for 76k? I love all mid-years, but even I think this is a little absurd. It must have been a dead perfect car?

I guess it's all about what you want and how much money you have to spend. Greg

Well I personally love the silver/silver combo as it highlights the styling lines of the coupe very well. Also, with air it is very attractive.

But over $70K?......hmm. Seems like there were two people with a lot of money that BOTH wanted that car....

Wow, Diamond Back Tires will make any kind of tire for you !

And they probably took advantage of the "free cocktails" prior to getting into an egomaniac pizzin" match. That's way too much for that car.

Totally agree. I remember when the '58 was persona non grata and '57 prices were about 50% greater than that of her later year brethren. As Bob Dylan once said: "these times, they are a changin".

I think they have "plants" in the audience bidding on cars to drive up prices at B-J. There are too many cars going for unrealistic prices at their shows.....and you don't see it at other auctions.

Default Barret Jackson

If you people noticed there were Ladies bidding on a few cars and their likes are different than men. Example: my friend sold the Barny Fife 63 Ford Galaxy car a year and a half ago for $28,000.00 .This year a Lady bought it for $110,000.00 Nothing new was done to it. She just liked it.

They probably do have plants, did anyone notice how the bids curiously backed up on many occasions? That being said, I believe that BJ attracts the strongest bidders of any auction company. I do believe that most if not all are real but it takes a brave soul to sell at no reserve.

I wonder if in the process of talking to some of the people that put their cars up if BJ "suggests" what it might bring and then during the actual auction if they don't try to work up the number to get close if not exceed. Seems that some of the cars were on the block a long time as compared to others....maybe that was just me watching TV and loosing track of time, but it sure seemed that some cars were really worked......

Often referred to as "Chandelier Bidding". Some legislatures, such as NY State, have proposed legislation to outlaw the practise. Not too surprising, Sotheby's Holding, Inc was against having the bill move out of committee. No big surprise there.

Yes, this is true. I was at Las Vegas Barrett Jackson last year. Some cars were pushed off the stage very quickly, and other's lingered for some time while they kept pumping them up. And they were still bidding on some cars after they left the stage.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I once read an eBay auction description and the seller said that was exactly the reason he bought at Barrett Jackson, too much liquor!!!

Mecum runs a fine auction. Just don't let them talk you into removing your reserve in the heat of the moment. With this ecnonmy, a lot of cars are going for low ball prices when having no reserve.
