Dropping Insurance on your car this winter?

I have four cars with Haggerty. The biggest cost is always the liability, but you only pay that once. The collision & comp is peanuts. I might not drive all 4 cars during the winter, but I might take one out if the weather & roads are decent. For that I need the liability. To me it's hardly worth the time and effort to take the insurance coverage off, either for liability or collison/comp, for a few months.

drop insurance
Some states (Ga.) what to cancel your registration if you drop your ins. and your ins company will notifty the state when you drop/suspend your ins. I stopped the practice- not worth the bother for me.

We keep a car in Rochester NY, another at our Florida home and drive a third between NY and Fl.
State farm allows us to remove the liability on the car in the location thats not being used. They call the program an "insurance Pause" and you don't have to turn in the plates, its all done on the phone with one call. Over the years its saved me a ton of money.

nothing to save on my older cars, but on my 2003 Z06 I only keep coverage for fire, theft, vandelism...unfortunately we see snow and ice and crap in the winter...saves me $200 per year....
Checked on the older Vettes and the 37 Ford and really nothing to save....

Since liability coverage is expensive, and if you put your car away for 5-6 months, it makes economical sense to suspend the liability and collision portion of your policy and keep comprehensive in force. The savings are quite substantial.

Crowd Plow For Now
When in Illinois.. Had Farmers Ins. They would suspend coverage with only comp for the winter - and add collision and liability in spring.
In NC - full coverage all the time. You can title a car wo ins but to get a tag proof is needed. If you lapse 1 day - the letters fly! Ten days wo insurance fines and plat revocation.
BTW - this is the state that gave out drivers licenses to ANYBODY and everybody. I believe a dog could of got one if it could sign it's name.
