Default Tires for my 63'

Are red wall or white wall tires apropriate for my 63'? I want that original look. What tires are recommended?

Cheers,

Bob

A red stripe tire would not have been available from the factory for your 63.

That same constraint didn't keep me from putting them on my silver 65 though, because I think they look just right.

I have been able to narrow the available Decent whitewalls to the following in 215 70R-15
The yokohamas get the best performance review.

I got Firestone Indy 500, with redlines applied by Diamondback Tires.

I recommend the Michelin Symmetry also . . . great ride, handling and price. I have them on my '66.

Default 63 Tires

I second the Michelin, ran them this summer and love them.

I like the narrow stripe on the Michelins. But the performance of the Yokos is tempting. I haven't made up my mind.
Any modern tire will beat my classic tread F70R BFG silverstones. They are downright terrifying!

The '63 needs the whitewall. Redlines only if you really want that look.....

I actually love the look of the original bias plys. If they didn't handle so poorly I would put a set of those on. Anyone have experience with these? Are they that horrible?

Cheers,

Bob

If you drive your car with spirit, or a good bit....you'll be better off with radials. Bias ply is good for shows, NCRS etc. But they are not all that much fun to drive on.

... Bias Ply tires are Rock Hard for driving. If you are driving your car, and not showing go with Radial tires.

I have the bias whitewall repros on my 63. The look is perfect. However, I don't drive it. As others have suggested, if driving is your plan, which it should be. I'd go with a radial.

You mentioned you wanted the "correct" look. Keep in mind, with whitewalls, the wheels are black and with blackwalls, the wheels should be body color !! Post up some pictures of your car when you get it "shoed" up !!

Well it looks like white wall radials is the way I will go. Now what about the thickness of the white wall? Was it the skinny white wall or the wider one?

If you are wanting a classic look go with a 1" whitewall for an accurate look on your '63 corvette.
