Default 1966 327/350 L79 Questions

can someone please let me know whats correct/original for a 1966 327/350;

is the oil fill tube chrome or black ?

is the coil bracket the short/small round style or the long style that attaches to the ignition shielding ?

the finned valve covers on our 327 have an attachment, an extension about 3 inches wide on the outboard side at their midpoint. it has an oval shaped cap on top. i haven't seen this before, can someone please clue me in as to what the purpose of this is & who put it on; factory, dealer, bubba ?

lastly please recommend a source; book, website, etc where i can find out the correct colors for various engine parts & suspension. i'm not doing an NCRS restoration but do want to make thecar look as correct as possible.

thanks !

Sounds like a breather installed by a previous owner, not a factory item.

The NCRS judging guide is still a good source even if you aren't doing an NCRS restoration. Also, look up Noland Adam's complete restoration manual for 63-67 corvettes.

Chrome, with a threaded, slighly downward angled bung for the PCV valve.

Long, that also serves as a bracket to hold the ignition shield - positions the coil on the pass side of the distributor.

Here's a nicely-done '66 L-79, except the air cleaner shouldn't have a horsepower sticker on it.

Pictures of my matching numbers engine , original to car , oil dip and covers. 66 roaster, owned for 40 years

Also Corvette by the numbers by Alvin Colman, excellent for what parts belong on your car.

I have a older 327 that has the oil fill tube inline PCV that is supposed to link to carb. This Holley ahs the choke assy. removed. May I put a 'T' fitting at the rear of intake (it is presently linked to the brake booster) for a source? The block has the rear down draft set up as well.

Thanks you.. Your set up goes to the rear of the carb & will also work w/this Holley. Whew, have polished out a decent set of 7 fin 'vette valve covers and really wanted to run them.
