VIN number location on frame
Can someone tell me the area of the frame to look for the VIN number. Can it be seen with the body on the frame? Does anyone have a picture on the location? I thought it was on the left hand rear wheel area of the frame but guess I am not looking in the right place because I don't see it.
Thanks..........JOHN

I found mine right above the drivers side rear wheel on the top of the frame. I found it while I was sand blasting the frame. No way I would have seen it without removing the body and blasting.....
Good Luck,

This is a pic of the 63 on the rear kickup. Notice it is right above where the rear suspension bumber mounts.
The other number is on the frame rail next to where the driver seat would be (your left rear pocket of your pants) doubtful it could be seen with the body on.

Nope. The '63-'65 rear VIN stamp is directly above the upper shock mount, and in '66 it moved rearward to centered above the front edge of the #4 body mount bracket. If you pull the wheel and clean the top surface of the frame, you can usually see the number with a small mirror.

1963 VIN location at top of frame rail
I found mine, thanks to this old thread, and others like it on this forum…Thanks guys!
In the pics, the masking tape shows where to look (1963 anyway), it’s at the top of the frame rail, starts and ends where the tape starts and ends. I had to lightly sand some surface rust off, and the pics show all that’s left, it’s a very faint imprint, and the “008” part of the VIN is all but gone. Sad that they didn’t stamp that number any deeper. It just took one coat of paint to hide any trace of that number…that’s a shallow stamping.
