Default Anyone ever see photos of the 63SWC with jump seats?

Back in late 1962 my older sisters boyfriend worked for GM. He had some photos of 63 SWC's with jump seats in the back. One was a silver, the other a saddle tan car. Anyone ever see these cars?

Lots of those "kiddie seats" were sold - here's an old ad from Yenko Chevrolet for them.

The Yenko seats are interesting but not what I saw. The photos I saw were single seats in pre-production cars. The guy was an engineer with GM and was showing my sister the new models that hadn't come out yet. He was driving a 62 with dual Carter AFB's as his daily driver. Thats when I decided to get a Vette as soon as I could afford it. As I recall he said GM was considering a four place Corvette because of the success Ford had with the 58 T-bird. That's what I remember.

There "are" pics of the styling exercise of a four seater 63 Coupe. Maybe John Z will have it handy?

Also an interesting story about how some of the GM top brass got stuck in the rear seat because the front seat wouldn't release properly. Got pretty hot, both physically and under the collar, which helped result in cancellation of the project according to the story . . . . ..

That wasn't a real car - it was a stretched-wheelbase fiberglass Styling mockup created for a management review; the review didn't go well .

I bet Zora would have had a stroke if the car would have went to production.

pg. 67 of Noland Adams Complete restoration guide for 63-67. According to his text, there has been speculation that the footwells on the early cars were there to possibley accomadate rear passenger leg room. Also according to Adams' book, the prototype was vnever given serious consideration, as the stretched 4 passenger version with the longer back glass looked way out of proportion. I also read- and I think it was a Shinoda interview- that one of the GM bigwigs came to look at the proto- got into the back seat, and the front seat mechanism hung up when he tried to exit. Tdhey allegedly had to remove the front seat for him to get out, and that was the end of that.

Why stop there I'm sure a mid year was stretched into a limo before. I've seen the c3 and c4 done. I bet a c1 would actually be the best looking with that conversion.

They were designed to accommodate power seat motors; the 1961 GM Styling drawings showing the installation surfaced in Europe about a month ago.

Wonder how he got trapped in the back of a C2 coupe? Until the 1968 model year, seat backs didn't lock, they flopped forward with the greatest of ease in virtually all two-door GM cars, even Corvettes with no back seat(s).

Interestingly the seats look more like 64s with the wide back cushions.
