Fremont CA dragstrip Corvettes circa 1979 Pics
Usually I am in the C3 section but thought you C2'ers would appreciate these pictures. A friend Don sent me these pictures of an all Corvette meet held at the old Fremont, Calif dragstrip back in 1979. The yellow 10 sec. '67 435HP coupe in the pictures was painted by Don for his friend. Don's wife was nice enough to scan the old Kodak 110 Instamatic pictures for me. Don thought you might enjoy seeing these old pictures. Maybe some of you remember one of these cars?

Really cool pictures for the day!! Thanks for posting an all Corvette event.
My son moved to Pleasanton 2 years ago, which is only a few miles from Fremont, is the drag strip still in existence?

My understanding is Fremont Dragstrip has closed. I was able to run my '72 down Fremont dragstrip back in the summer of 1975. Don's pictures brought back memories for me.

A part of the good old days. Brings back a lot of memories. We used to call it going to the 'Fremont Drags'. In 1968 Friday night was grudge night and you could either watch, or race your car. Admission was $3.00.
It was great seeing the muscle car era of 383's, 390's, Hemi, 427's, and 440's square off. I remember one night - there was a particularly strong running '60 or '61 Falcon blowing the doors off all comers. The guy was razzed in the pits about what was under the hood, of course - even 'bribed'!. A little smirk was all that was 'said' .. Finally, towards the end of the evening, he pops the hood. It's a 327! .. ..
