Bendpack Single Post Lift ...
I'm building a new garage and looking for a lift - mostly for storage. Does anyone have any experience with a single post lift? I've been looking at the Bendpak one, but I don't know anyone with one. I really like the idea of the single post - put the post up against a wall and you have tons of room underneath for parking and moving around. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance - Nikko

I am assuming he is talking about this one:
http://www.bendpak.com/bendpak-produ...s/PL-6000.aspx
or this one:

Not this one (this one would scare me):

It appears to be used in conjunction with more than one lift. I don't think it was designed to lift the whole car. Just one corner. It states it has 15" arms. They all look mighty expensive.

You buy it and let us know how it works out. I have a four post I can move around. I'm also building a four car stack system so the four post will lift them to the second level. I will also buy a two post for the service part of the shop in the near future. No single post lifts in my plans.

Yep, the PL-6000 is the one that I'm looking at. I agree that it doesn't look as sturdy as a four post, but I think Bendpak builds a good product and wouldn't offer this if it were a safety problem? A 2 post doesn't look as sturdy as a 4 post either, but they make plenty of those.
I would really like to see one in action before dropping $5K on one though.

Like it far better than the CL-16.
I glanced at the one you are looking at before going with a 2 post (2 post was far better for my purposes).
The shipping will be a bear too (3100 lbs. and "large").

Burning Brakes
I have had a Bend Pak 4 post for over 12 years now and very happy with it. The single post looks nice but I'd loose sleep just thinking about it tipping. I can only guess that the floor and foundation needs special consideration for that lift. When I bought mine the sales rep mentioned that the ramp style was better for storage and the arm style was good for working.
Mine was trucked in and a car carrier dropped it in the garage. 12 years ago shipping was included in the price!!
What ever style you get, buy a good comfortable hard hat too!

Crowd Plow For Now
Have a BP HD-9 for over three years... Great for parking, working and with the wheels- moveable... Has a rolling jack to lift wheels for brake jobs etc.
The one post is for parking only it looks like.
A two post with arms would not be used for parking or storage as the suspension drops and over time this position causes problems of being in the dropped state for so long. ie bushings, shocks, ball joints, tie rods etc.

Melting Slicks
I just had my shop lifts inspected and was told to watch out for fraying cables...becoming more common with the newer IMPORTED Chinese lifts....
Might want to be safe and check them out periodically
What ever you choose make sure the concrete slab is thick enough to support and anchor the posts properly!
