wiring diagram for 59
Need to get a wiring diagram for my 59. Is there a problem with wires that are switched on one of the gauges? If so, which company has the correct diagram? Thanks, 59 navy.

When I installed my under dash wires I documented the best order in which to install them. Remember that this is looking at the dash from the firewall so right is driver side left is passenger side.
It states the proper colors for the amp gauge, which is wrong a many diagrams. Go to the link below and its at the bottom.

The hot feed from the starter solenoid goes on the ammeter terminal closest to the driver's door, and all the load wires go on the terminal closest to the passenger side door.

Steve 59 said: I believe that the wiring to the ammeter is reversed on all of the 1959 wiring diagrams. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
I believe its reversed in the wrong diagrams and not reversed in the correct diagrams.

Exactly, I couldn't have put it better, even if I tried.

The only diagram that shows the correct ammeter connections is the one in the 1962 Assembly Manual, in section 12, sheets 19.00 and 20.00.

I am not sure I trust ol docs wiring diagram. In my 1959 a new M&H harness (everything) wired in. I took several months (yes, I'm retired) to get it just like the pics. Headlights on, high and low. Taillights on, park lights on, horn works. Now I turn on the ignition switch to check the blinkers and I saw the amp gauge go to -30 and pffzzt pop! Lots of smoke. The pink 18 gage wire that goes to the temp gauge fried. Fortunately, only that wire burned through and boy it did smoke. In your vette, in the garage, any smoke is BAD. After taking off the tape to the soldered junction I was assured that was the limit of the damage. I need to secure a new pigtail for the burned one and solder in, retape etc. So...what really happened? No blown fuses (that'd be too easy).
Not sure. The pink wires on temp and gas gauge went to DS terminals. Not grounded at all or weird in any way ... I took my time (lots of it).
Anyone had a temp gauge short out? I am sending the gauge pod to the instrument guy for a look see and get it fixed or assured its OK. Still looking and wondering. -olchev.
