C1 Steeroids R&P
#2
You're not the only one waiting "with bated breath" for a review.
According to a few distributor's recents ads; http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...oids-sale.html ..the Steeroid C1 R&P kits are just flying off the shelves, so there must be at least a few of them racking up miles under fellow CF board member's C1's by now ..unless its ambitious advertising
Appears the kit uses the center-steer J-body (82-86 Cavalier etc.) rack thats commonly used in the rod world for such conversions. If it weren't for the black art of proper steering geometry and the mystery of how to tie it into the C1's archaic tiller, I'm sure we'd have seen basic R&P kits on the market years ago at prices in the mid-$100's range, sans column of course.
Here's their installation instructions if ya wanna see how they're mounting it;

Manual. I have no concern regarding steering effort, only steering precision and feel. I use a small diameter wheel now so any improvement in effort is just gravy to me.
R&P, needle bearings and a 11" disk conversion and I'll be a happy driver!

When you say "needle bearings and a 11" disk conversion", are you referring to tapered roller bearings for the front spindles, and 11" disc brakes?
If so, you might want to read my install thread from a few years ago:

New Steeroids Power steering kit
Just ordered the kit last week, on back order due to demand. Dewey's Just Vettes is going to do the install. Once it is up and running I will let everyone know how well it works.

Needle Bearings
I agree with you as to the manual R&P. Should free up the steering and add precision that it never saw before.

are the bearings that replace the king pin brass bushings. I added
them to my 61 about 5 years back. They do reduce steering
effort if you stay with manual steering. The bearings are the
cam bearings for an iron head Harley Sportster.
