Default Ammeter gauge does not move?

I recently replaced the ammeter gauge on my 64 rothe center position. I know it should move up and down a little. How do I check the wiring or comnnectors, since I know the gauge is good?

Thanks

The BATTERY meter is measuring the voltage difference between the horn relay and the starter solenoid. Both BATTERY meter terminals should read the same when the car is not running - about 12.4 volts with a good battery

Both of the sensing wires from the battery gauge (18-ga. black and 18-ga. black/white) go through the inboard multiple connector on the engine side of the fuse block; if those terminal contacts inside the connector aren't making good electrical contact, the gauge won't move. Remove that inboard harness connector and check the condition of the male and female terminals.

Tjamls guys I will check the voltage at both sides of the gauge connector. The gauge that is labele34d ammetyer is a battery gauge?

The original gauge on my 65 is labeled "Battery".

Perhaps you have an aftermarket gauge installed?

Sorry My stock 64 guage is labeled battery, however reflects + or - 40 AMPS, U guess i thought a "battery" guage would reflect volts?

Here is one quick way to check the gauge itself to see if it is good. Unhook the wire harness plug. Take a 1.5 Volt AAA battery. Using a wire from plus and wire from negative on the battery, quickly touch the contacts on the gauge and look for a reaction. Reverse the contacts and see if you get a reverse reaction. Do this quickly...do not hold the wires on the contacts or you may blow it out. But, if the needle moves, it works. Just did this a couple weeks ago on mine. If it moves, your problem is somewhere else.

It doesn't really say "amps" - just numbers. What it's really displaying is the magnitude of the voltage difference it's sensing between the two sources. In much later years, the "voltmeter" became the standard, and it just shows system voltage.
