Who makes the most accurate gas tank sending unit
Hey guys,
I need to order a new gas tank sending unit for my 66.
Who makes the most accurate one?
Which brands should I stay away from?
Does anyone still carry the OEM GM part # 6428065? (GMPartsDirect.com shows a superceded # 19180447 which is made in China)
Thanks in advance for any info.

Be careful buying an original delco one there are a lot of NOS ones that were made in the 80's that DO NOT WORK they were made with the wrong resistence and they will never work. I had to replace 2 of them, I just bought the repo one and they are still working.(Zip products)

The senders with the white plastic resistor, called a "film resistor" are built to current GM specs for gasoline with today's high sulpher content and possible ethanol mix. The wire wound resistors will fail and give false readings, eventually. All new car senders use this technology today.

If the sender is the original sometimes they can be restored . The most common failure of originals is corrosion on the contacts. Clean them up and you might avoid the repro syndrome.

I've had the originals in mine over 35 years, through the old and the new gas, and they're still working . . . .

I bought it from a local Corvette shop. No manufacturer name. I assume the fittings were pressed in. I can't tell anymore as the unit is installed with the spare tire carrier back in place.
