Default Should I need a claw puller to remove the crank sproket?

I have everything apart on my '62 327/300, and am ready to install the new timing chain set.
Do I need to go get a claw puller to get the crank sprocket off? It seems to be on there pretty tight? I remember them just sliding off on the couple of Fords that I did?
Also, how bad a groove before sleeving the damper ?

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,
I'll throw this out there - I've not personally had to deal with it, but I think on a Chevy the crank sprocket is heated to expand it and then it can slip off. I'm sure in the morning you'll get a real answer, from a real engine expert.

Hope not Jeff, I only have a propane torch, no acetylene...
Off to bed for me, happy Fourth!

Yup just use a gear puller to pull it off. It aint on there that tight. Then I use short lenght of pipe that fits over the crank and lube and tap on the new one on. KC

You can get it off with a hammer and punch.
