Default ididit Tilt Steering Column vs. Flaming River

Any opinions on the ididit Tilt Steering Column vs. the Flaming River Tilt Steering Column? The only difference I can see is that one is paintable steel and one is paintable stainless steel. Not sure if it’s worth the extra $215 for stainless steel. I’m going to pain it black so I don’t need polished or chrome. I typically subscribe to the belief that you get what you pay for, but I also know you pay for the Flaming River name. Just wonder if the Flaming River column is that much better or I’m just paying for their name. Thoughts…

1963-66 Steel ididit Tilt Steering Column: $374

Travis: Since I have the prototype tilt steering column from Flaming River I am partial to them. I don't have any experience with Ididit.

I also run a Jeep box and had to cut the shaft down lengthwise to fit the u-joint coupler. This did not present any problems.

I was researching this a little while back.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...lt-column.html

One thing I still have a question on is the steering wheel hub. I think the Flaming River column will accept a stock Corvette hub and wheel but the Ididit requires a special hub to use a stock Corvette wheel. The hub is around $100?

Flaming River column does accept the stock hub and wheel. I really like mine, fit and quality are excellent.

Tom,

Thanks so much for posting your link, very helpful. I was surprised to see how many guys are using ididit and really enjoy it. Looks like you can't go wrong with either one ...travis

Travis
Yer welcome.
I still haven't done mine yet. I'm watching eBay. Whichever shows up 1st at the best price will be the one.

Had to sorta hijack this tread cuz it mentioned Flaming River. They used to make a 12:1 manual steering box for C2s, but no more. All they make are replacement 16:1 boxes. I don't want to go to the Borgeson power box conversion. Anyone have a lead on a Flaming River 12:1 box?

Thanks

Hello Richard,

I'm quite close to pulling the trigger for an Ididit Steering Column plus a Boregeson Delphi 600 power box conversion. Before I actually make the decision, I'd be interested to know why you would not go with the Borgeson power box. Is there an inherent flaw or some problem with them that I should know about or is it simply a personal preference against them?

Any information would be greatly appreciated .

Best Regards,

Jay
