[pics] 58 motor
Just picked up this motor off craigslist the other day. I thought it was cool, dig the original valve covers , and may just clean up and leave it on the stand as some "Garage Art".
It was listed as a C1 "Corvette Motor for sale", and the owner thought it was out of a 60. I bought for probably what the valve covers were worth, and brought it to the garage. The front pad has some signs of being decked, but there are some faint remains of the original pad stamping there.
It's a '58 3737739 block, and the date is I47, so a late 57 block. Heads are the 3748772 x58 heads, which I think are the passenger car heads. The cool part was the original 3726086 valve covers. They are in good shape with no major dings or cracks. The intake is a '65 intake, #3866922. The water pump is a mid 60's - 70 replacement, 3782808. I can't find any numbers on the carb or distributor.
Here's what she looks like:
Rear casting number:
Rear date code:
Front stamp pad: you can see the decking marks, and the faint remains of part of the original stamp
Original valve covers:
Here's some shots of the carb that is on it:

Thanks Vette
Thanks Olds
It's either that, or someone stuck it in an ole Blue Oval at some point.

Great deal, but I don't think it's a Vette motor. Like above that original blue paint could be a truck color and the Rochester 4GC carb was never on a Vette. 57 up Chev cars and trucks I believe. Same carb as on my 56 Chev (late).
