55 Powerglide transmission value?
I just purchased a 55 265 V-8 w/steel powerglide transmission. I only need the motor and want to sell the transmission. This came out of a running 55 Chevy, but I think the trans was also used in corvettes. What are these things going for today? I don't know a thing about automatic trannys. Some of the numbers off of it are 3708241 GM23, 3709050 GM22X G317, 3718251 GM26, 3709096 13. There are 16 splines on the tail shaft. These are off of the various housings and sidecovers, etc. See pics.

I used a strong degreaser and pressure washer in the back of my pickup. Just surface rust since last Wednesday. Went to Streator, IL for cruiser night. You guessed it, forgot the camera. 500+ cars and perfect weather for cruising or parking and talking.

I had one a couple of years ago that was attached to a 283 I bought.
Couldn't get rid of it and eventually scrapped it.

Available for $250 or less in many places. Ebay for one. I buy complete engine/trans setup s for under $500 pretty regularly.
They only made a ton of them........

The torqe converters are different. Since they were in a 'sports' car and had no external cooler they were designed for hotter temperatures. Roy could probably post a picture of the 2 showing the difference.

if all parts are original you have a late 57 transmission. date for mainbody is on bottom side of the mainbody. on a 55 car and corvette the tailhousings are the same, but the yoke on a corvette are 1 inch longer than a passenger car. a corvette transmission will have a neutral safety switch and a shift arm with a eyelid on top for the neutral safety switch arm. it is nice that this transmission has the original kickdown linkage because most reproduction linkages do no have the correct bend. being a very complete transmission in very presentable condition i would value it at $200 to $500. if put on ebay you do stand a chance of getting next to nothing. the last dated 55 tranmission i purchased on ebay, which was just like the transmission shown, was purchased for $50 and the seller met me half way from our houses!
