Default Looking for help in hooking up power ant.

I installed an aftermarket (looks like the orginal) radio. I also have a power ant. and I know (or I think I know) the wiring harness plug for the power to the ant, but I only have a single hot off the new radio to power it.

Has any one ever hooked the ant. up so that it power up/down with the radio on an off?

Thanks.
Mark.

Just the hot lead won't work...most radios have an add'l wire (orange many times or yellow in some cases) JUST for the power antenna. If you use the radio hot wire then power will be cut when you turn the ignition off even if the antenna is still up and it won't retract. The EXTRA power lead powers the antenna even after the radio and/or ignition is off to allow the antenna to retract.

Default Relay Box on antenna

Frankie,

The power antenna should have a small black box with
it that is an electronic relay. You run a 12 volt wire to the
red wire on the relay (hot all the time). Ground the black wire.
The wire from the radio is a low amp driver for the relay. When
the radio is on it has 12 volts.(antenna goes up) Turn the radio off and it goes to zero volts. (antenna goes down) The 12 volt red wire is driving the antenna. I always put an extra switch on the radio
driver wire. I shut the antenna down when playing a CD or Ipod.
