Default New FI Unit has arrived

My Arizona Speed FI unit has arrived. What a beautiful piece of work. It really does look old school, Can't wait to get this on. Just waiting for the aluminum vortec heads I ordered to be built.

Yeah it is not cheap. Here is the website. http://azspeed-marine.com/

The price quoted is for the base package with the standard GM HEI Dist. I had them upgrade to the MSD 8572 Corvette tach drive distributor. I upgraded from the narrow band o2 sensor to the wideband o2 sensor. I purchased the software package so I can tune it myself and I upgraded to include a knock sensor.

Does the AZ Speed system use the MEFI4b controller and does it require a separate control box for the wide band?

If this unit uses the MEFI system, the controller itself is very small, about 5" x 4" x 1.5" and it can be mounted in the engine compartment. This is the same system used by the GM Ram Jet engines and spark control, knock sensor, and narrow band support are all built in so there is no need for external boxes. I don't think there is direct support for a wide band, that's why I asked the question about having a separate controller for it.

Correct about the MEFI4 ECM system. The ignition control module is stock GM. There is a seperate box for the wide band sensor. There is also one of those ugly external HEI coils. So I'll have to hide the ECM, the control module, the ugly coil and the wide band sensor module. I had a custom harness made with 4 feet of wiring between the unit and all the boxes so I should have a few options.

i mounted all my boxes on the engine side of the firewall. but, i also moved the battery to the trunk, which is not an option for you......

I still have some room on the firewall under the heater box I may be able to put the ECM and the wide band sensor box there. Of course you would have to remove the battery if you ever need to access it. The HEI coil and the ICM I am going to mount somewhere behind the ignition shielding so you won't be able to see it. It's too bad they don't make an HEI coil that looks like a regular coil.........

The GM Ram Jet 350's have the ICM built into the distributor. Wonder why AZ Speed is not using one of these? Is your distributor a GM part?

Nope, as per above, I upgraded to the MSD 8572 small cap corvette tach drive distributor so I could retain my stock tach and use my stock chrome.

i was a bit leery of mounting my stuff behind the battery because of the possibility of God only knows what happening with the battery. if you're concerned, maybe you could put the stuff on the driver's side.
