Default 65 Shift Boot Replacement

The rubber shift boot on my 65 is rotting away and I need to replace. I have a muncie 4 speed with the reverse lock out. How big a job is that? Any suggestions or instructions would be appreciated

If memory serves, you have to remove the center console.

This requires:
1) remove the shift ****
2) remove left and right radio trim panels
3) remove all center console screws
4) put gear shift in 4th gear
5) carefully remove console

On my 65, I couldn't get the center console off unless the shifter was in 4th and the **** was removed.

Once the console is off the shift boot should come off.

teasipper,

Yes, you must remove...can't just stretch the new boot over it. There's a metal reinforcement plate with a # of screws which the boot screws to. Your boot has holes punched to conform to this plate. Must unscrew all in order to secure the new.

Pretty straightforward.

Jim

Jim's right.. it has to come out.. but that's simple once you have the **** off.. it just lifts out of the shifter.
