Default Resto Rod Frame Question?

I have started to get interested in resto rodding and am wondering why everyone seems to buy a generic frame from one of three main suppliers with C4 suspension with either C1 or C2 body mounts. Here comes the stupid question why don't you use a C4 frame and weld the C1 or C2 mounting points on that frame? It must be the width or length or both.

I don't think the C4 had a traditional frame that would remotly work with an older vette.

It was more like the C6 frame of today with suspension ends, and a center backbone.

Edit, yep, as I thought, here's a photo borrowed from the C4 forum

I am assuming the C4 suspension is used because of handling and better ride. Is there a way to improve the C2 frame to get these features?

Not really. For the money you'd have to spend to modify a C2 frame to accept the C4 suspension components and geometry, by the time you're done you could buy a properly-engineered aftermarket frame that's designed for the C4 pieces.

Billy Dawson at Corvette Corrections also has a frame available for the C1 and is working on a C2 version.

For those of you who have the new frame with C4 componets how big of a difference is there between the C2 and C4? Is it worth the money? Versus just putting a LS2 and Tremec in an existing C2?

Just weld up the c2 frame and put in some after market front and rear parts for all the suspension system and be done with it. And still have the org frame under the car. The car will do a ton better just doing the above items to it...

One issue with with the C4 components is the wheels are more out board on them and require wheels which have lots of back spacing to clear the fenders....this is not a problem if you don't mind the look of the C4 type wheels and a re not going to lower the car. If you are planning on lowering it much I would check out either the Jim Morrison or Jim Meyers set up......both of they will allow you to tuck the wheels in more. Good luck with your car

What money? Seventy five bucks will buy you enough steel plate to make brackets to bolt the suspension to. The expense only comes into play if you don't have the talent to do it yourself.

Complete C4 suspension under my car, and stock wheels. Not a problem.
