Default loose steering??

any ideas on how to snug it up, the steering is tight, put new wheel on, its just loose at the 1st point after the steering wheel, so it rattles a bit, I'm going to pull the wheel hub with a puller, any idea which part it could be

I was thinking of maybe adding a couple of washers to the big bolt that holds it on to see if it would snug up more, any ideas would be great, thanks!!

Default Bearings

Have you inspected the bearings under the steering hub and on the shaft just past the firewall? Most of the engine compartment bearings, if original, are usually long gone. Jerry

Have you thought about posting what year car you're working on ???
Steering design differences between C1 and C2 cars could fill a bookshelf...even the 63 steering column is different than other mid-years.

Some steering columns have a clamp on the out side of the firewall that holds tension on a spring Have more or less tension on that spring will fix that problem

It WOULD help to know what year car we're talking about but if it's the one in your avatar try loosing the clamp at the rag joint then, while having someone push forward on the wheel, re-tighten the bolt then loosen the spring and push it up as tight as you can (there's a measurement between the spring but I don't remember) re-tighten it and see if that doesn't remove the extra play.

I'll give that a try, the steering function is good, its just the the wheel from after the blinker joint is loose, & its just more noticable with the new 15" wood steering wheel I put on, thanks again
