Default Suprised of the cost of C2 projects........

Well for some time now I have been pondering the idea of getting another C2.

Have been looking at the projects............WOW 20K for a 64 basket case that needs at least 10K in parts. Hate to pay the labor to finish that car.

Just wanting a car that I can fix up to what I prefer. Wanting a coupe, intend to install a LS/200R4, ps, pb and Vintage Air. It looks like I am a tight wad or just not in the real world. With the economy in the toilet, I was thinking I could pickup something in the 12-15k range. Guess I need to win the lottery or something..........Looked at the C3's and they are cheaper, lots cheaper but really do not like the car's that well

There are lots of ways to look at it. Just because the economy is down doesn't mean that things don't still retain actual value. I don't agree with prices I see on quite a few things but that doesn't mean I am correct.

As far as a 12 to 15 thousand dollar used/rebuildable/basket case car you may find one. You may not find one. Just depends on who has it and what they will accept.

There is a D&D Grand Sport kit for sale on this forum for $17,000 right now. If I had the room for it I would have already purchased it.

Which is why you are better off buying a completed resto car now.

The 'sweat equity' (the seller's labor to do the restoration) doesn't hardly enter into the prices currently. E.g. you aren't saving much trying to tackle the work yourself in many cases....

While the overall value of the cars may be lower now due to the economy, restoration costs have continued to go up. Parts and labor really add up quickly and it's easy to get under water real fast if you are forced to sell. If you are planning to do all or most of the labor part yourself, then you have the opportunity to build the car the way you want it and know what you have when you are done. That would be my preference. Pilot Dan

I had a budget of 50k to get my 65 396 where I wanted it.
Wrong!

The costs for the parts and service is waaaay more than anticipated.

The initial buy is about 1/2 the cost, depending on what you want, what you start with, etc. I can't image installing a LS/200R4, ps, pb and Vintage Air for 10k. Plus whatever you get may want paint and interior. To say nothing of wheels and tires or top.

Best of luck to you.

They're asking $17,750 for this '65. I don't know this company, but if interested, you could make them an offer. - Pat

Holy crap! The car I'm sitting in on my avatar I bought from those guys!

Not a bad group of guys. Absolutely ZERO hagggling room though, so if it says $17,750, that's probably what you'll pay.

I think they're over in Queens, NY. Kind of a rough area. But if it's still the way it was when I bought my '66, it is easily worth the trip. It is a giant warehouse in the middle of the city, that you would never know is even there. And again, if it's like it was, this is by far the cheapest car they have. When I was there, they had about 100 cars tucked in there - Lambo's, Ferraris, Auburn Boattails, and yes, real Mercedes Gullwings. It was a trip.

Default 64

FYI. I saw an ad for a 64 in the latest issue of the NCRS publication. It was for a matching number 64 coupe. The price was $21.5K. The car was represented as complete but in pieces. I think it was last worked on 10 to 15 years ago. It has got to be better then the 65 listed above. The 65 looks like it needs at least $10K of bodywork and paint. Jerry

Could not have stated it any better having the budget availible is half the battle. Getting the Body Shop to do paint and body work in a timely manor can be very frustrating

Good luck

I paid 17K for my 65 coupe in 2004. It was completely disassembled. The only thing it had going for it was that it had been painted. I probably put 23K into it to get it where I wanted.
I just looked at a 66 coupe with 32K on the clock. It is a L-79 with factory air and side exhaust. Maroor with tan interior. It is all there but needs a total resto. They want 22,000 for it. If you are interested PM me and I will give you the contact info.

I am playing with the idea of getting myself a 1981 or older Ferrari GTB(dont like the GTS) Either red, black or yellow.
Well, most important a rustfree car with a okay interior.

Any here knows what the the 308 GTB sells for?

Or go for a C3(68-72) convertible? Suppose thats the best thing to do.

No engine or trans. It was a SB 4 speed, I am trying to deicde on what engine. Built SB or LS. Trans will be 200R4 (getting lazy in my old age )
