im not sure why you are looking for a rate because most of the guys that do this type of work have their own prices and are not tied down to a consensus of rates or competition either.....if you can't do it yourself, be ready to shell out moderate to big bucks if you want anything done right the first time around......:

Not a bad idea. Regardless of the rates, it would be nice to know an acceptable time period.

You may need his help one day, or any of us, and you won't get anywhere with that attitude here!!!
And, you'll give Canadians a bad name.

Hey Kerm, I didn't mean to offend anybody I have since apologized to Frank. I think I was short on puntuation...just a misunderstanding. Certainly don't want to start an INTERNATIONAL incident here.

no problem guy, none at all....but to help out, maybe you should post what type of work you are trying to labor rate or price out...sure the old books can give these rates for engine work and driveline and the like but when it comes to issues like windshields, interior work especially dash related among other things like body mounts, trailing arms, wiring, etc., most vette repair experts have their own rates for trying to fix a 40-45 year old car. i think if you posted some of your issues, we all could come up with some kind of high and low rate to help out.....

Midyearvette kind of touched on it- the labor guide from back then, was for back then- when the car was new, and just a bump of the factory warranty times. Now the car is way old, and all that entails, and using a time guide to estimate time is just not going to be right. I was a flat rate tech for years, before going into management, and the aftermarket time guides are just bumps, and anyone that has done this knows, the warranty times are at best a educated guess (i've seen things that pay 2.5 hrs take 5 minutes, and things that pay .3 take two hours)--sidebar- 'you tend to look for the first thing I mentioned to 'break' under warranty after that'- end sidebar.
The flat rate system, while I have made a good living from it, is borderline ridiculous, but it's not going anywhere.
Also, here is the real golden rule- you are paying for what he knows, not how long it takes.....

What do collector insurance companies use for a labor guide? If you need your car repaired correctly and insurance is paying there must be a guide they use when working with resto shops.

Years of experience and knowledge of what it takes (and what the parts cost) to properly repair 40-50-year-old Corvettes. Mitchell guides don't mean much on really OLD cars.
