Default 66 zl-1 resto mod

NEW PICTURES PAGE 2!!!!

I thought you guys might like to see a 66 we have been working on since June, The engine is a zl-1 crate motor with a keisler 5 speed. The frame is made from 2 inch Dom tubing and uses c4 suspension.Bilstein shocks were used because they can be mounted upside down, which helps cut down on unsprung weight.we made the headers and used classic chambered pipes. The body has a new front end from corvette image and after stripping we painted it ralley red with Glasurit waterborne paint. As you can see by the scales this car will be very light.

That will be a handful, any during pics etc? Always curious with what somebody started with. Very Nice looking.

I keep seeing these super nice stuff show up, I'll ask a moderator to delete my junk.

That's a lot of motor!

One question. And don't think I'm being picky, that's going to be one great car. Why not a '66 BB hood instead of the '67 stinger? I know the stinger is a classic and always looks great but it is a '66 right?

Again, great work on an awesome car!

I would think that the ZL-1 (L-88) air cleaner assembly was never fitted to the 65-66 hood and he will use the '67 L-88 insert in the '67 hood.

That's one of the coolest cars I've ever seen.

It would be fun to see the weight distribution with a driver in it.

Default Wow!

I saw this frame in the early stages while John still had it in the jig. His attention to detail is without question and to build a frame from scratch you gotta know what your doing. Hopefully John will post some pics of the frame in the jig. As you know John painted my '67 last winter and I hope he will help me when I build a '67 resto coupe.
Congratulations John on another great job.

I will be in with a full judging team tomorrow. You better hope those door jambs aren't shiney mister. All BS aside, that looks sweet and I'll drop by next week and check you out. Just how in the hell do you plan on getting that thing in my Christmas stocking though?

Great build. Will be interesting to see what total weight of car will be when it's completed.

I started my build going your direction, hoping for a car that weighed around 2900 Lbs when completed. Somehow I got off the diet and went heavyweight....LOL

My car should out weigh yours by about 800 lbs....lbs if I can bring it in at around 3700 lbs. Comfort Vs Speed...

Just a few Extra Weight items.
150 Lbs of sound deadner.
50 lbs of just muffler weight
75 lbs of C6 powered seat options
125 Lbs of extra 4L80E transmission weight

Just a few things that added weight over stock C2 items.

My goal with this car was to loose 500 lbs off the stock car, figuring a big block would probably weigh around 3200 lbs.It will be close I think. The man who owns this car may not know how much that will change the way it runs,he's in for a shock.jbl

VERY NICE! That frame looks great. Can you shoot me a PM with a rough price estimate? I have a buddy in need of something like that.

Thanks,

This restomod thing is making the C2 into the second '32 Ford.

Just as you can build a complete Deuce hot rod from all new non-Ford parts, so can you build an "improved" C2 from the chassis up!
