Hmmmm, have a looky here at this picture, taken at Green Valley, of Delmo's engine bay:
Look closely at the door for the master cylinder. Where is the hinge?
Typically, on a Grand Sport, the hinge is on the inboard edge of the door, parallel to the edge of the hood.
Looks to me like the hinge is on the forward edge of Delmo's door and the (quarter turn?) latch is on the rear edge.
I've never seen that before.

Here's a vid from the 1964 Elkart Lake race.

Notice that Roger Penske calls his Corvette the lightweight. When did the term Grand Sport come into common usage. No one associated with the project has ever called it the Grand Sport.

On the engineering drawings, the car is named simply "Lightweight Corvette"
Still, someone on the development team thought it was a Grand Sport. Otherwise there wouldn't have been that rear deck emblem.

I've wondered about that as well. It couldn't have been the marketing guys since they didn't even know about the car.

I've managed to "collect" over 30 Exoto Grand Sport models since 2008 or so.
I saw this the other day, and just had to order one this afternoon. It'll be done to look like my car.
I couldn't resist!
Here's the "address" of the gent who makes them: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php...806760&fref=ts

Looks like the GS replica world will have another option for the GS buyer. After a long time coming it looks like Superperformance will be offering their coupe/roadster GS versions as rollers. Heard that they intend to deliver the first customer car at SEMA in Las Vegas. My understanding is they will offer their own suspension versus the standard C-4 versions. ------------ Ken

That picture has been around for a while and, as far as I can tell, is of a chassis made by Duntov. I've had my own copy of it for 5 years.
The Superformance prototype which has been displayed in public has rack and pinion front steering. The chassis in the picture has a C2 steering box configured for rear steering.
Also, the Superformance prototype has Wilwood calipers. The ones in the chassis picture appear to be iron, Delco calipers.
There are probably other differences I'm just too lazy to look for.
So, bottom line, I'm not sure that picture accurately reflects the latest Superformance thinking.

Need to select trans for "Wintersteen" replica
I am at the point where I need to select a transmission for my GS "Wintersteen" roadster replica by Mongoose Motorsports.
I plan to use a GM ZZ502/502 Deluxe package (P/N:19201332) crate engine.
I have been planning to use a TREMEC's TKO series 5-speed, but I am open to other suggestions, if there are any other viable alternative options out there.
Thank you for the help and any ideas.

Your car looks amazing! I'd suggest you to check out LGT-700 from legend gear. Keep us updated.

So I'm new to the corvette forum but I'm looking for
some help with info and maybe who would even be interested in original grand sport wheels. They are one set of wheels from the #3 Delmo Johnson car. What would they be worth? Would the original grand sports want them?
