Default 1965 Corvette power window stuck in the up postion

My 1965 Corvette Coupe power window is stuck in the up/closed position. I closed the window too fast and the window jammed. Does the window need to come out to fix?

Might tackle this job this winter or next spring after my garage cools down.

Does anyone have any close-up pictures of the inside of a C2 Corvette power window Coupe set-up? Would like to see what I'm getting into before I open this can of worms.

Does the battery gauge move left when you try to put it down?

Get your A.I.M. out and look for the 'window stops' locations in the door....

Sounds like the window is stuck on the 'window stop'...see if you can look inside at the edge of the window and see if it is stuck...you might be able to use a paint stir stick to pry it off and then power it down...

Are you sure that the window is jammed and that you don't have a failure of an electrical component. Possibilities are the switch, motor (or motor connector), circuit breaker or wiring. If you end up having to work on the window mechanism in the door, you're lucky that it quit in the up position. I had one fail in the down position and that's a real PITA because the glass is blocking everything you need to access.

Thus, why I asked if the battery gauge moves to the left when you try to lower the window.

Won't know until I take the door panel off.

I would recommend starting with the easiest things first. First check the circuit breaker to make sure it's closed (power in and power out). Probably the next easiest thing is to check the switch. You have to remove the console to get to the electrical connections for the switch. If the switch is operating properly then the problem is in the wiring between the switch and the motor or the motor itself. The motor has a three prong plug and the plastic plug is pretty well known for crumbling after all these years.

If the gauge doesn’t deflect left when you push the down button on that window, you have an electrical problem, not mechanical. Don’t be in such a hurry to take the door panel off.

What is the proper way to take off a door panel on a coupe?
Is there any glue involved?

Proper way, given your response above, is to leave the door panel alone until you prove your switch isn't the problem. I bet it is. Why ignore the advice you have been given in posts 3, 6 & 10?

You really think a power window switch would go bad after 5 years?

You must be kidding Mike. Reproduced parts are known to be woefully poor in fit and quality. I'm on my third reproduced horn button which is a switch. Power window motors carry some current and the OEM switch is typically built to handle it. Reproduced switches not so much.

Five years. My repo switch went out after 5 times. I rebuilt the original switch. It was full of carbon burn. I have it in the back of my mind to add relays for the power windows and headlight motors. Jerry

Still have my original 1965 power window chrome switch. The chrome has seen it's better days. Wonder if bumper chrome polish will give it back it's luster shine or will the polish residue cause a short in the wiring system?

The lever of the switch doesn't contact anything to short out. These rocker switches have internal contacts (points) to complete the circuit to power the motor. I don't know it the parts from the repro will fit the original switch or not. Bottom line, do you want the windows to work? Pretty is only good if it functions.

Isn't the 'window stop' as you call it , only at the bottom of the window glass? My window is stuck in the "UP" position. Someone mention window might be off the track in the up position on another thread.
Need to have this Michigan winter break first before working in my 40 degrees garage.
