3844461 Intake Corvette only ????
I recently bought a very nice 3844461 aluminum intake, that does NOT have the firing order or snowflake ???? Does anyone know if this is a Corvette only part, or did GM use it on other cars. Other than the lack of firing order and snowflake it is identical to the intake on my 65 L79 car..
Thanks in advance

Its possible that somebody removed them planning to sand down and polish the manifold for show purposes. I rebuild early Corvette engines and I have run into 2 of these. 1 big block and 1 small block.

I can't tell you anything about the missing firing order or the snowflake. The manifold casting number was released for the '64-'65 327/365 horse engine for Chevelle/Corvette.
In it's original form, it had a divided plenum carb base with one oval and two round openings.
Just looking at the corrosion damage at the coolant interface with the heads and the thermostat opening, I'd say that thing was cast before China (or others) got in the copy game.

It sure looks different from this ('64) one that I sold a while back:
I have to agree that someone probably started to polish it and then gave up after seeing how much work was involved.

It looks like there is a number cast on the underside of the manifold on the left side of the baffle. Can you get a better picture of that area?

I'd say its genuine, but modified.

The plenum has been hogged out. Not so good on 4 hole intake design. Probably an attempt to run a larger carb than it was designed for.
Dual plane intakes like a 70s LT-1 with 2 oval intake holes had a plenum divider wall. Which benefitted by a slight reduction (1/2- 1 inch) in the divider wall. The benefit was only at the very top end. Sacrificing low end. I think the L-88 was the only dual plane with a modified wall from the factory.
The one in the OPs post has been hogged out down to the runner.

the numbers visable from under the baffle are 92 99100 50 52, either way I think it is a real 461 intake that has been ported, I will eventually put it up in the for sale section, so if anyone is interested let me know....
thanks guys

Definetly tooled, and numbers removed during partial polishing, I have also seen many ported out like that as well, old school guys believed it gave you more power, maybe it did, but not good for originality.

I have a beautiful 490 intake manifold for my '66, I mean this thing has been sitting in a box for 30 years and it is immaculate .... except for the part where someone "hogged out" the carb plenum, just like the OP's. I'm afraid to run it like this. I spoke with Jerry McNeish of early Z/28 fame and he said that he could build a divider section for mine. That's my plan ...
