garage floor
definitely do the floor before doing your project, the dirt and grime that's on it now will clean up easier than oil and grease that will definitely happen, buy the floor cleaner, paint etc. in a kit from Lowes etc. a job but works well and you will enjoy a much easier clean up afterwards.

Steve, fantastic job & post. Found thread looking for info on upper control arms. Wish I still lived in Marietta, so it would be easy to see your project.

Steve -
I'm new to the forum, but after reading this thread straight through in a single (VERY LONG) sitting, I feel like I've been here forever. Finding this thread is like striking gold.
I am the happy owner of a 65 convertible. I plan to tear the car apart down to the frame in the coming months. I'm still gathering all the tools (at least the 50% I know I need), and completing my shop (converting a barn, grading and paving a driveway, running 220 from the house panel, new cement pad, new lights, etc...).
I have a question, and your answer is the one I most want - lift, or no lift? I see you've done all of your work with a hoist rather than a lift. In my case, I need to do some extra engineering on my barn to get a 9 foot rise over an 8 inch concrete slab. I was all set to sign up for this and get it done, but after reading your thread am reconsidering.
How much would a lift have helped you?
Mike.

Sorry for the lack of updates all. I have been involved in some other side projects for myself and other people. I'm about ready to get back on things. As far as the lift, I wish I had one but my set up would not allow for one. If you have the ability to install a lift and the means to do it I would recommend it highly. Yes you can do everything without one but it makes it much easier to do some of this work with a lift.

Melting Slicks
My car and I hit the big five-oh just one weekend after, so either way "our" celebration's definitely starting at Corvettes at Carlisle 2015!
Since the requirements are to leave your car there for the duration (Thursday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and remain until 3 p.m. on Sunday) I haven't decided if I'd want it to go into the 1965 anniversary display. It's our only transportation to, from and while in Carlisle, so depends how flexible they are with it moving out at night.
But SOOOO looking forward to celebrating in 2015! They even feature a great shot of my car in the promo vid on the page (forward to the bluegrass coda at 3:08 and again briefly at 5:29.)

Burning Brakes
You just picked up another rider; how many people can ride in a
Vette!
I also have the LB front end that has been sitting in place for over 2 years. The original is still handing around and disappointed that I didn't repair it. I'll watch you and see how things go.
Lucky that my two Harleys are treating me well and only get typical maintenance but they do take away from the Vette project when I ride.
I'll be watching you so smile when ever you accomplish something.

While my nominal reason for checking in on this thread is self-serving, in that I intend in the future to do my own '65 frame off (but probably not bird cage off), I hope all is well with Steve. He seems to be quite the nice fellow.

Talked with Steve two weeks ago. All is fine. Hopes to be back on the Vette soon.
I think a few of us need to go up to his place for some encouragement...He is only
30 minutes NE of here.

I'd like too if for no other reason than to see his car and get away from this dreadful weather we are having here in Ontario
