Default Hardtop restoration Part II

Well for all of you that have been around for a while may remember when I created this thread for all the Midyear hardtop restoration questions.. Pics galore..

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...mbly-pics.html

Well then last winter I made the decision while redoing the interior to throw all caution into the wind when in the middle of the teardown I decided to do a color change.. Crazy right after I already had all of the saddle parts. Am I crazy? Okay don't answer that...

Now it's time to make the hardtop go from Saddle to Bright Blue...

So from this

To this..

Letting it dry overnight so I can put the headliner and trim back in tomorrow. Then I can pull the soft top so I can strip it and paint the frame. The next step is to get the Canvas top installed.. Oh the joys..

Needless to say I had to move the Vette out of the garage today with no seats in it.. That was fun.. I felt like a Munchkin..sitting on the floor and driving a stick is not fun... LOL

Good man! When you do the soft top frame removal, clean up and soft top installation, please do it like the hardtop thread. I really need to do my soft top.

Dave your original hard top rebuild thread was just as awesome as the one on your power steering rebuild.

I'm sure this hardtop redo will go a lot more quickly for you because 1) You've done it before and, 2) I hear Nassau Blue is a faster color than tan anyway!

Man, if I had access to a nice pair of TT's I'd spend the day "polishing" on them too! Oh, you are talking about wheels. Never mind.

Did mine yesterday! Gotta pull em every 1000k or so. I took em out for balancing. I pull my own wheel weights and polish them before they go to the tire shop. I pull the caps too.

Then I hover over the tech during the whole process. These scratch if you breath on them wrong.

But they sure are purdy.

Hitch,
Great color Can't wait to see the Vette when it is done. Are going to display at Dorton Arena on Feb 11-13? If you want let me know.

Fred, Yeah I was talking to Marshall about that but I'm not so enthused about leaving my car up there for three days.

Since you're changing the color, don't forget to paint this section Brite Blue.

Dave,
I just primed all my interior trim. What BB paint are you using? Dennis

One thing that I didn't document last time I worked on the hardtop was the interior trim installation steps..

Also removed the soft top assembly so that I can refurb it. It's amazing how small it looks outside of the car. I also failed to paint the strip on the interior of the car that was white.. Man did I have to cover a lot stuff to do that..

Wow, that softop assembly does look small outside the car. Did you have to mark the exact location of where the assembly was attached? Looks like there is a lot of possible lateral movement on that mounting.

I'm doing mine next!
