Default Heater Blower Motor Troubleshooting

I am in the process of reassembling my 65.

The heater blower motor worked before I took it all apart,as far as I remember, but doesn't now.

It is a non-a/c car with all new wiring harnesses.

I tested the output at the wires to the blower...it reads about 10.5V when blower switch is on ( battery is not fully charged)

If I am getting power to the blower and it is not working, does that eliminate the heater resistor as the problem?

Before I go through the trouble of removing the blower I want to be sure it is the problem

Thanks

Is the blower motor grounded? It grounds through a black wire in the starter harness that plugs onto a spade on the blower motor and has a ring terminal on the bottom that goes under the head of the outboard starter-to-block bolt. That same wire has another pigtail at the top end that grounds the wiper motor.

Yes, the ground wire is hooked up. I have it hooked into the spade that one of the screws that holds the motor in place goes through.

Didn't go under to look at starter but when I hooked up the starter it seemed pretty straightforward and there were no extra wires

Wiper motor is working.

Since reinstalling, have you checked to make sure the squirrel cage fan revolves freely. Those fans are kind of fragile and if slightly bent or not square on the motor shaft they can drag (or possibly bind up) and it may appear the motor is not working.

The resister is pretty easy to get to under the dash from memory. (I could be remembering my Plymouth however, the Corvette one may be on top the heater box). You may need to pull it out or jump the terminals to bypass it momentarily.

Have you ohmed out the ground wire to make sure it is really grounded? If you have 1.5 volts on one wire and ground on the other, the blower motor should at least be trying to turn.

How do I check with my meter to see if it is really grounded?

Since you are almost on top of the battery, take a ground from the battery and ground it to the ground on the blower. Next take a wire directly from the positive of the battery to the power side of the blower motor. The motor should come to life. If it does not, replace the blower motor. Jerry

You got it.....but there is more to it...I'm not a total idiot

Before your post, i took out the blower motor. That was fun.

Brought it inside and hooked it up to 12V and it ran.

Re-installed it....didn't run.

Read your post....keep in mind that all the wiring is brand new, and the fuses are all brand new.....but even so I went to check. Pulled the fuse and it wasn't blown and was the correct 10 amp fuse.

Just for the heck of it replaced it with another new 10 amp fuse....and it works!

Tested the original fuse with meter...no continuity.

The problem was a defective fuse.

Waste of an afternoon....but at least it's solved.

Thanks to all for your help
