Default Holley 4150?

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions for using a Holley 4150 carb and keeping the factory fuel line & filter setup for a '65 327/350 (L79)? Thanks!

4150's and 4160's both come in single feed and dual feed versions but I'm guessing that you're asking about converting from a single feed to a dual feed. If that's the case, you'll need to cut some tube and use some flex line, rubber or steel braided, to make the connection.

Yes, dual feed. I was considering using the same set up as the '65 396 big block setup. But I dont know if it will all come together?

I would expect that the BB's setup should work but will probably need some trimming and bending to match up.

The '65 L-79 had a 4150 to begin with (Holley 2818); why won't that work?

My Holley 2818 has been rebuilt several times and I cant get it to stop leaking, and I think one of the metering blocks has warped over time. I bought a Holley Street HP 650CFM. I didnt want to mess with a choke or vac 2nd's. Im just looking for reliability and drivability.

Do you think its OK to use rubber fuel lines into the carb from the fuel filter?

Don't run the rubber line. It not only unsafe but looks cheesy. I had a mechanic buddy do mine for a few beers, some fittings and fuel line. If you don't know anyone who can come to you, temporarily, use the rubber line to drive the car to a shop who can do this for you. I can't imagine it being very expensive, it took about 20 minutes to do mine.

Send it to Eric Jackson www.vintagemusclecarparts.com he'll rebuild it RIGHT, and set it up on an engine before he sends it back to you.

The stock 2818 used a neoprene rubber line between the fuel filter and carb fuel inlet (see fuel inlet hose barb on John Z's picture above) on the 64-65 L76 and 65 L79 engines. I see no reason why that can't be used on your replacement carb.

There are also neoprene rubber lines used between the tank and fuel line and fuel line to fuel pump. Like all things that can deteriorate over time, they need periodic replacement.

John, I may do that. I got the new carb from some friends but Im not completely sure I want to mess with switching to another carb. Will it come back ready to bolt on and leak free? Thanks, Jeff
