Default 1967 Tachometer Needle Removal

How do you remove the tach needle on a 1967?

Gauge cluster is out and on the bench...

I do not want to break the needle so looking for proper needle removal technique.

Thanks

Hold it by the the center hub and turn it counterclockwise while pulling up on it. Once you hit the mechanical stop, keep turning, you will feel it start to move, just keep turning and pull up gently.

But, once you have done that, the thing will not read right unless you have some way of calibrating it. You will have to run it on a known speed drive to check for operation.

I was able to put a new needle on it and turn clockwise until it set on zero. Seems to work fine by hand... how can I bench test? Will a cable and a drill work okay?

UPDATE: Works fine..tested with 3000 rpm drill and it is right on the money!!

Thanks,
