My SWC
I'm not absolutely sure I have not listed my SWC at an earlier date. I have been attempting to find out more about it for some time now. Vin NO.: ,,,645, Riverside Red, Black interior, 4 speed, FI car. The engine is not correct, it's a 66 300 hp 327 ci Chevy engine with a 1964 Fuel injection unit and a K66 electronic ignition system. I'm in the process of securing a date/numbers correct engine for it. Have the block, heads, pan and pulleys. Having said that does anyone know someone that would trade an early 63 FI unit for my 64 FI and K66 units??? Hugh

Yes, I do have your Coupe #645 listed in my file.
Your '63 was originally recorded in the Larry Brooks registry back in the late 1970's. Larry listed it as being a Red/Black 300hp 4spd Coupe.
I also noted that your car is listed in the 63-67 Sting Ray Registry site as well.
Could you please tell me what your cars Body number is?
Thanks Hugh!

I'm sure its the late 64, has the micro switch and by pass solenoid. I know all about the anti-siphoning valve, my stuck open and dumped gas into the cylinders!! Luckily I did not bend a rod but I did got rid of that check valve. I put in a second solenoid that normally closed on the main inlet on the spider. Also I added a hidden manual switch in the wire powering the second solenoid as an anti-theft gas kill switch. Hugh

A4 (located in the upper left of the trim tag)
STYLE: 63 827 263 BODY
TRIM: std 923A PAINT
I contacted Larry some time back (when I joined the registery) and he did not know anything about this particular car. Seemed surprised his name was listed as the owner.

Wow, when I bought my SWC it not only had a '66 300 hp block, but the original owner told me when he traded the car in back in 1966, it had a '64 fuel injection unit on it. The car also had evidence of once having a K66 on it.
Weird!

Hi Syd,
40 years is a long time. Before I lost my hair I had the same barber for 15 years and I've had the same wife for 30; so I guess change isn't my thing We've been together through thick and thin. I've hooked the title at the bank on several occasions early on when things were tight, but in the end I was able to hang onto it.
The car was born silver blue, it has it's second repaint, which is now Daytona Blue, with a dark blue interior. It has a white convertible top, and I got the car with a correct original hardtop. Not sure if it was delivered that way or not. It is a 4 speed car, currently has an incorrect T-10 trans, and a NOM. I got it that way. The Body Number is: 10434. Body build date: K4.
Syd, thanks for putting together your data base, and for this very interesting and enjoyable thread.
Happy Holidays!

Hey Syd, I hate to bother you with this, but do you have a record of # 5185, a Daytona blue, on Blue, split window? My brother owned it for a period between 1967 and about 1969. I found some paperwork from the used car purchase in 1967 from Jim King Chevrolet in Milwaukee. Thanks!

Sorry but I did not have info recorded on your bro's old Coupe #5,185.
I'll list it now as recorded with "info only + papers" 1969.
Would you know what engine hp it was and the transmission type?
Thanks!

I have 105802 - '63 SWC built December 1962, Delivered to Nasif Motors in Cheboygan, MI. Originally Daytona Blue with a Dark Blue interior. It's been Riverside Red since the late '70s as I understand. No documentation on the car, but I believe it to be a 327/340. 4 Speed, 4.11. I'd love to someday "stumble" across someone who may remember the car, as I've reached dead ends regarding being able to document it.

I would think more SWCs have been kept or resurrected than '63 convertibles because 1963 is the only year (AFAIremember) that coupes outsold (or came close to outselling) convertibles. If it wasn't for the cookie sheets on the hood it would be hard to tell a '63 convertible from a '64 as it passes by. Most observers would not be able to distinguish the difference in hubcap designs, particularly when in motion.
And why such a high percentage of coupe sales in the 1963 model year? Well, it was the first fixed-roof Corvette, and it had the first American production split window since the 1940's.
The convertible, carrying less weight and a lower center of gravity, won a greater percentage of road races. Throughout the C2 era, when Zora Arkus-Duntov hosted car magazine writers at the proving grounds, he tended to use convertibles, with hardtops if it was raining.
But a SWC remains at or near the top of most Corvette fans' or collectors' wish lists!
-'64 convertible owner who wants a '63 coupe with A/C and a late-model SBC for long trips

Hi Syd,
5185, is a 4 speed car. I can't remember the HP, and my brother has memory issues so neither can he.
Funny, the paper work dated July 29, 1967 shows the cash price of the split window at $2188, and they gave him a cool $993 for his 1961 dual quad Corvette trade in. I remember it being a very painful financial transaction for the family at the time. Now the prices seem comical.
Best Regards

I had your car #5,802 listed in my file but the only info I had was that it was a Coupe. I've now updated it's entry showing Daytona Blue/Blue.
Thanks Jd. And good luck with your car's history search!
