Spark plugs? Wich to use?
I use NGK BP6ESF if remember right on my car.
A friend of mine have a 71 Camaro with a 405 hp 383 blueprinted crate engine that came new with Champion 7940 plugs.
Its time to change the spark plugs on his crate engine and he want to use NGK spark plugs.
Wich type of spark plugs and name do my fellow members here on the forum recomend for my friend?
Click on the link under here to see the engine he have

Unless he's put over 100,000 KM on those plugs, why does he need to change them?
If he likes changing stuff just for fun, regular $2. AC Delcos, NGKs or Champions will work just as well.

When I worked the auto supply as a teenager. EVERYONE swore by Ford Autolite plugs. No matter the application.
After many years with Euro cars. The NGK proved to be an excellent product. But in Euro cars I would still go with Bosch.
I am using good ol' ACs in the Vette.
Whats wrong with his Champions?
As long as you are buying a name brand plug, you can't go wrong. I used the ACs because I didn't want to do trial and error heat ranges taken from the cross apllication chart.
As long as you are in the right heat range, you couldn't tell whose plugs are in it.

NGK UR4 is what I use in my 61 383/450. It just runs real nice with these plugs. I use AC/Delcos or Bosch Platinums in my other cars but this motor just runs great with these plugs.

Did your Vette run poorly on ACs?

The biggest difference by far that I seen in spark plug performance has come from eliminating lead from gasoline and the hotter ignition of newer cars. Not the brand name of the plug.

When I bought the motor the NGK plugs were in it. The 383 ran so well I just figured I would never change it. Why mess with success?
I use AC R45 XLS in my big block and never deviated because it runs so well. I have tried everything over the years on my L79 from AC 44. AC 45, Champion J12YC. The car only ran poorly on Splitfires Bosch Platinum 4036 are my favorites for that car. Never had a car run poorly with AC's though.

Just pulled them the other day to "check them out". All 8 were just fine, with nice light brown/tan deposits. Cleaned 'em up and put 'em back in.
I NEVER had luck with any AC plug, especially AC 44's. Same deal with Champions. Never could figure the "right" one, UJ 10Y, J 10Y, J 12Y, UJ 12, UJ 12 Y, UJ 12 YC, etc., etc. TOO much confusion for my pea brain.
Prior to using the NGK's, I used Autolites. Never had a problem with Autolite either.

Most pro tuners I know recommend NGK. On leaded gas in the '60s, when (iron-core?) ACs and Champions only lasted 7,000 miles in my 327, copper-core NGK B6Ss ran twice as long in street driving.

The old spark plugs the engine came with from the manufacturer in the US is Champion 7940
Can the engine have come with poore plugs? He always said my Corvette is faster than his 383 blueprinted Crate engine with Vortex heads.

Saint:
Gasoline, air and the engine make power, not spark plugs. A spark is a spark is a spark.
The Champion plug that's in there now is a long life double platinum type. They don't work any better than the old fashioned $2.00 type, just last longer.
If your buddy is down on power, look elsewhere.

Is the ignition system working? Y/N
Is the engine flooded? Y/N
I'll be waiting here with baited breath for your response. I had pickled herring (rollmops) for breakfast.

I have not looked at the car in person but he told me that the spark plugs is wet of gas.
I will visit him tomorrow to have a look myself.
he just told me that the spark plugs are conical and dont have the washer on them that is usual.
Maybe because it is vortec heads on that crate engine?

NGK Iridium Spark Plugs
I run NGK Iridium Spark Plugs in my 67 Highly Modified tri-powered 11:1 cr big block, and they are outstanding! And they last much longer than any other plug Ive run in it since I had the car new (44 years).
I run them now in all my other 5 cars with fabulous results. Check em out. Just select the ones you like and get them with the "IX" added to the plug number. I run #6 heat range in my beast.
