Default Poll: How many C2 Convertible drivers stay seated to open/close their top?

I think like the majority of vintage convertible owners, we keep the top down more than up. However, there are conditions like rain when you're not moving, or parking when you're not empty that require us to eventually put the top up, then down again.

So although this is probably as silly as a poll on leaving the toilet seat up or down, I was wondering whether most C2 convertible owners stay in the drivers seat to open or close their top, then just get out to push in the rear brackets - or if most will do the whole thing from out of the car. Most of the time I'm in the former category as although it's a bit of a back twister to pull the top up from the driver's seat, at least it's easier pull the header down into the pins to latch the front.

What say you?
Update the poll - Raise/lower top from seated INSIDE the car
or Raise/lower top from standing OUTSIDE the car

Also - how deep do the front header pins seat into their guides? Mine sit barely a quarter way through, though I have tried to adjust them to sit further in.

my front pins sit almost flush with the bottom, my rear pins go 3 clicks
i always get out of the car to fold or un fold the top as i use the plastic protector strips on the paint surface, and i remove them when the top is down....

I've raised the top from inside however I think it's much easier standing outside the car, unless of course one has trouble getting in and out of the car. Let's face it, if you want to latch the rear bow, you have to get out anyway. Putting it down wouldn't be as much of a problem but I like to put a towel over the rear window to protect it, so again, I have to get out of the car.
As for the guide pins, mine fit exactly like midyearvette's and the only way you could adjust the pins to go further into the guides is to put a shim behind them or pull the header bow down tighter.

I do everything from the outside, partly because I have one of those pillows to protect the rear window. Does anyone make a power top conversion for a mid-year??? I know it's decadent, but I love how I can do everything (including all four windows) by pushing a single button in my daily driver.

I have tried both ways but the outside way is easier.

I always lower the top from the driver's seat. I can put it up from there as well, but I get out to lock down the rear pins.

I'm outside my '5 to both put her up as well as put her down. I too have one of those pillows to keep that rear window from creasing and cracking up. The pins that go through on the header are flush like midyearvette and stingrayL76. LOL!!...C2Dan, I kinda' draw the line on "modernizing" this top up down function. Doing it the way we do just helps give this old school technology its personality.

Everytime I try to put the top up from the outside, I pinch my fingers in the frame above the driver's window.

I trust you know I was kidding . But even C1s had a power top option, and my C6 buddies seem to like it as well. Did any Corvettes after C2s and before C6s have power tops?

I do all function from outside. Why the hell did GM put the pull lever oriented toward the passenger side? Dennis

I was thinking the same. Never even thought you could do it sitting down. ( I am still talking about the top of course... )
