Default How are your taillights grounded?

Let's start by saying my car (64 vert) is a restomod. Therefore it is perfectly OK to have a Painless Wiring system that uses mil-spec insulation, mini fuses and has a master fuse. Also, the entire system cost $200. And it is perfectly installed. Just say'n.

Now that I've defended myself sufficiently from you dirty animals, here's the rub.

I'm going to replace the rear housings with LED lights and original style wiring connectors. My custom wiring has a third wire to ground that was attached to each bulb jack with a hose clamp.

Worked like a champ for 11 years.

I see the original schematic shows a ground wire.

Questions:

1. Do you have a ground wire?
2. Where does it attach? (Housing nut?)
3. what color hair did your first one have and did the carpet match the drapes?

Thank you gentlemen.

Stock was grounded under a housing nut on a black wire and then up to the rear body connector under the dash and connected to ground at the instr cluster. All rear lights ground came from the instr cluster via the rear body connector.

Aha! I'm sure if I had the original harness I would have figured it out, but it burned up long ago.

Thanks! I knew it needed to be grounded. Can't wait to get my nice new taillights. Mine where pitted and horrible looking. With new paint, I just could not stand putting those crappy housings back in.

Uh... I mean "custom housings"

They don't HAVE to be grounded that way, the frame is ground back there, too. I was just speaking of stock wiring. You can always use the frame if you prefer.

Yes, that is how I designed it originally. I figured why run a wire that far when the dang frame is right there. In the way.
