Default 67 Original Brake Calipers

Is it possible to get original reconditioned 67 brake calipers for a car? Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean by "original - reconditioned". All of the brake sellers request rebuildable cores when buying brake calipers so, you will get rebuilt 65 - 82 calipers when you buy. I think you can pay extra and specify a datecode, and the best rebuilt calipers have stainless steel liners and pistons, but my competitors and I all race with stock calipers and discs, just race pad material, so they are fine for any street usage.

"Early" '67 calipers (with "546" casting numbers and guided pistons, same as '65-'66 calipers), are VERY hard to find, as the first thing the rebuilders do when they get a set is to machine out the guides in the bottom of the piston bores so they can use the same non-guided pistons used from early '67 through '82 in the "545" caliper castings.

Any rebuilt original calipers you buy will have been stainless-sleeved; I haven't seen a caliper with plain iron bore surfaces for decades.

OK, so it seems like I could get them. Now where can I get them from?

Why do you want proven-inferior non-sleeved calipers? Mounted on the car, nobody can tell if they've been sleeved or not.

I can get you either 5465 (65-67 early) or 5452 (67-72) calipers with or without insulator pistons if you like. Give me a call

John,

Don't want them non-sleeved. Just want properly numbered ones which I don't believe mine are. Sorry for confusion.

"545" castings are quite common (they were used from '67-'72); all of the usual rebuilders (Lone Star, SSBC, VBP, Van Steel, etc.) have plenty of them, and they'll give you core credit for the ones you have now.

Kirk:

I would take them up on their offer. Muskegon offers a quality product. They are offering to build you a custom set for your car. Not everyone will do this.

This is what I did years ago. Had DR VETTE put together a matched set of stainless steel sleeved master cylinder and calipers, and associated brake lines, etc. They are no longer in business.....they were purchased some years ago by CSSB in Florida.
