What is a protect-o-plate?

Re: What is a protect-o-plate? (rbvette1)
A protect-o-plate came with the original owner protection plan booklet(the equivelent of a warranty book now) it was a steel plate with reversed numbers so that if you pressed it into carbon it would be correct. It contained the seriel number, rear end number, and other build numbers. It came with the car originaly and because many original owners missplaced the book you don't see them that often. Lucky to have mine!

The Protect-O-Plate was reverse stamped with major features like the engine number, carburetor type, transmission code, original dealer, Etc. It was designed to be placed in the dealer's work order machine. With a single swipe, all of the important information was transferred to the invoice in direct characters, easy to read, and without copying mistakes. It was first used in 1965, but I don't know when it was discontinued.

Um...Yup, what they said. And I have right here before me, my original protect-O-plate from my white, 1967, 427, Coupe, S/N 194377S104969.
It is available to the current owner, where ever he or she is, along with the owners manual, and other original documentation. So if anyone knows where this car is, please have the owner contact me.
Thanks,

It was also the first thing any used car lot manager threw out when they took the car in trade and rolled the odometer back, so the next buyer couldn't find out who the previous owner was and what the "real" mileage was and how many times the car had been wrecked :D

Is it true that protecto plate will tell you muncie or posi rear, not as specific as that it is a M-21 or M-20 or 3:36/ 3:70 posi .

The P-O-P shows the complete rear axle code (date, ratio, posi or not), and the Muncie trans "P"- date code; the Muncie "P"-code didn't get a ratio designator suffix letter (for M20/21/22) until the 1969 model year.
