Stock Rally Wheels For a '65
I am looking to pick up a spare set of rally wheels for my '65 with disc brakes. What year rally wheels will fit and do they have to be Corvette wheels or Camaro, Etc? Thanks

You can go with 6 or 7 inch rally's. Everyone sells new ones, but 67 or 8 Corvette wheels, or early Z-28, Monte Carlo, SS Chevelles, and a few full size Chevs had them.

While the 7" wheels (with correct offset) will fit, they may not fit your tub.

There were only two 15x6 rally wheels - "DF", used on '67-'68 Camaro Z/28, and "DC" and "DG", used on '67 Corvettes and some disc brake passenger cars; the "DF" Camaro wheels are rare as hen's teeth.
There were two 15x7 rally wheels, but both are likely to have rubbing issues, as the Z28/Monte Carlo wheels move the outside edge of the tire almost 3/4" further outboard, and the '68 Corvette wheel moves the tire outboard another 1/4".

DF's are 6", but will not work on the rear, if your car has disc brakes. The backspacing is too deep (4-1/8", I believe) and the inboard edge will rub on the parking brake cable bracket. They also need a unique/shallow trim ring with a "U" shaped valve stem clearance slot, rather than an oval or ellipse.
FI's are also 6"; very rare riveted construction wheel used on '67 B-body station wagons and later on Chevelle with 'heavy chevy' option. They will work on your '65 if you come across one or more.
YS's are also 6". They are nearly identical to DC and/or DG, but the slot width is just slightly smaller. You can pass a .$25 coin on edge radially through a DC, DG, DF, or FI, but not so with a YS. YS will fit your car & you'd have to have a real good eye to spot the difference in slot width.
First pic, below is DC; second is YS.

ZBRA:
There's no problem using 15X6 or 15X7 rallys on drum brake cars, I had a set of 15X7 Monte Carlo rallys on my 63 SWC with F70-15 Firestone Wide Ovals. The rear tires never seemed to last long, but I don't think it was the wheels fault.....................
jtranger:
I have one 15X6 FI rally wheel if you decide to go that route, it was on my 67 when I got it, so they will obviously work.
DC wheels aren't that hard to find, they are on eBay frequently, but if you have buy 4 or 5, you will probably get some bent ones..........don't ask me how I know!

i recently put a set of 15x7 rally wheels with 41/8' backspacing on my '66 big block roadster. i had been told by several people that they would not fit because the b/s was too deep. the clearance between the cable bracket and the wheel was close, but they fit. i have driven my car about 100 miles with no problems. i pulled the rear wheels and did not notice any rubbing but just to be safe i ground about 1/16" off the cable bracket. the monte carlo rallys are more available and affordable than the camaro and corvette rallys and appear to work ok. i sure like the ride on the 15x7 wheels. hope this helps. tjs

It's fairly easy to Google Chevrolet rally wheel codes and come up with a complete chart.
Rally wheels coded DC, small dc, FI, B or YS should fit your 65 and look stock.
They are all 15x6 with 3 1/2 inch backspace.
It's best to just go by the codes since few of these wheels are still on the original cars.
