Hello all, I'm a new member and I need some help from the Vette experts... I just purchased my friends 327 that we always thought was a '64 Vette 327 365hp engine (RE code, factory domed GM pistons, steel crank, it had a GM solid lifter cam in it, 461 heads).. But, now that I dig in I'm not so sure, I believe is may be a '63 327 340hp.. Here are the details on the motor and heads:

Engine Casting - 3782870 / Date - E 24 3 / I.D. - F0603RE
Heads - 8782461 / Date - E 23 3 & E 9 3

-The motor is standard bore and does not appear to be decked, but there is no VIN number on the ID pad just a very define engine ID number. Did some engines come through without the VIN stamped on the pad?

-The Heads appear to be the correct castings and date range to be original to the engine, but have 1.94 X 1.50 valves. Is it possible that the 340hp / 365hp engines may have come through with these heads?

-Estimate on what it may be worth?

63' 340 hp replacement engine. No idea on the worth.

Depending on condition? Not much.

All the dates look good. It's a 340 hp.

Same bottom end as the later 365hp. But the 64 used the 30-30 cam and the '63 340hp used the 097 "Duntov" cam. The 365hp also used 2.02 and 1.60 valves.

Cast in May 1963, assembled in June 1963, not for assembly line installation for a 64 vette.
