Default Help with headlight motor adjustment 1966

PASSENGER HEADLIGHT ON MY 1966 WONT GO UP UNLESS I LIFT IT MANUALLY FIRST ( JUST BARELY ABOUT 1/8 INCH). THEN IT GOES UP JUST FINE.
OTHER THAN THAT BOTH HEADLIGHTS MOVE UP AND DOWN QUICKLY AND EVENLY.

IS THERE AN ADJUSTMENT TO FIX THIS OR DO I NEED NEW GEARS?

DONT THINK IT IS A MOTOR PROBLEM AS THEY BOTH WORK FAST AND EVEN?

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED

in the FAQs section under Sticky Notes, there is a headlight motor rebuild article discussion. More than likely you will need to flip/turn the gear 180 degrees. Had similar problem to yours and the that fixed it. Below is the link directly to the thread.

It's probably the big gear that is worn and it will bind on the worm gear. You might help yourself a little by not holding the switch down any longer than necessary to get the headlights shut.

I found that most all of the wear on the gear is at the beginning and end of its travel. As these points are about 180* apart, flipping the gear didn't do a bit of good.

If you get a new gear make sure it fits properly on the shaft before you install it in the motor. You may have to enlarge the hole a bit.
