I read something about a 1965 idler pulley. Where is that used?

I believe that the higher HP motors had a belt that ran from the water pump pulley to the crankshaft pulley, and the idler pulley was used to tension. That belt was there to keep the water pump turning if the alternator belt broke. Not 100% sure of all this, someone will jump in and confirm.

Anyone have pictures on the engine as I like the concept. The alternator belt likes to flip over sometimes at high RPMs.

Default Where can I purchase standard v-belts?

Good evening all,

To date have not been able to locate standard v-belts for my '66 bb. Your big players: O'Riellys, Auto Zone and I believe Advanced carry the ribbed v-belts. I have a alternator and idler belt from Quanta but they more replicate the original belt....spendly in appearance. Am wanting something more modern and no ribs. Any help? Thanks.

John, I had one on my '65 350 hp L-79 car, removed it to install the power steering pump... still have it in my parts bin

FWIW... you can eliminate the idler pulley and just use the 'right length' belt between the crank pulley and the fan pulley. no, i don't know the length but you could cut an old belt to fit and figure the size by that.
