Default Rear exhaust panel

I thought I read someplace that the rear exhaust panel on a 1963 and 1964 were the same, yet when I look on a parts site like Paragon, they show different part numbers. Does anyone know what the difference is? I have a 1964 that I want to put on a 1963.

Thanks in advance, Herb

The exhaust bezels are different, how the bezels mount is different and the way the panel attaches at the ends to the fenders is different.

That helps.....

1. Of the various C2 years, which one has the largest exhaust bezel opening? I want to put through a large exhaust tip.

2. If they panels attach differently on the ends, what is the difference? Is it just the bonding strip flage that is different? Don't they both bolt on at the ends.

3. Has anyone added one more exhaust hole on each side so that there are 4 exhaust holes?

Anything else? They are the same length in terms of the gap they fill?

Check the six tail light threads. Some have reprints of articles on installing extra lights, and one of these shows a SWC with two exhaust bezels and pipes per side!

I would think the 66-67 would be the easiest to modify using original bezels. However the 66-67 bezel is a hunk of pot metal, the 65 is lighter, but the panel has bonded on strips, whereas the 66-67 is basically a flat cut hole. The 63 is the smallest opening.

Herb,

You will find that the factory bezels will only fit a 2 1/2 pipe through with proper clearance. I bought a side pipe rear panel cut my own holes and made my own bezels to fit the 3" tail pipes. Here is a link to my exhaust build. Hope this helps.

Herb,
I believe you installed new quarters on your 63....so I would test fit the exhaust panel first to be sure that it lines up and fits from side to side. When my quarters were installed, my rear exhaust panel was a good 1/4 in. too wide on each side.

If for some reason you no longer need the 64 panel, let me know, Mine is cracked in a few places.

The 63 end mounting bonding strip only comes up about 5.1/2'' from bottom of panel & is 3/4'' from edge of panel the 64 panel has mounting flange made on end of panel Sermersheim's sells the 63 end strips you might be able to modify a 64 panel if you have one.

The fenders have the bonding strips on them for attaching the bottom of the quarter panel to the exhaust panel. I might have to reposition them on the fender, but I think I am ok there. With some fussing I should be able to get them to match up ok.

Do you have a link to that photo or thread? I looked, but in all the wrong places.
