1961 rear sway bar
My 61 vette has an old set of year specific lift bars or at least close to it. I am going to convert it back to the orginal type sway bar. So far it looks like ADDACO has a replacement sway bar kit minus the lower shock mounts.
Anyone know the old diameter of the sway bar or if there is a better replacement kit?
Also if anyone has the old sway bar setup with lower shock mounts in the corner they are not going to use, I would be very interested in purchasing them.

Corvette Central lists the rear sway bar as 5/8" diameter, and is for sale at $124 each, part number 581109
They also sell the shock plates and all the associated mounting hardware.

I just put the whole shebang on my car from Zip..about $200:

The shock mounts are a problem...if you can't find them used the Corvette vendors have them between $55-$65 for EACH side...not cheap but they are well made and include the studs to mount the rear sway bar end bushing brackets already installed. The RH and LH sides ARE different !!

Thanks Frank
I just about eliminated everyone else but Zip. I have an account with them and do get a little discount. I have used a bunch of vendors out there and Zip always beats my other vendors prices, their delivery is fast and website follow up is excellent.
Did you have any major issues with your install? Any help with the learning curve would be appreciated.

I've become a Zip fan too...when their web site says "In Stock" -- it really is in stock and delivery is typically 2-3 days to me here in Florida.
No issues with the rear sway bar other than the new bushings are a PITA to get installed in the end link brackets and take some 'finessing'. Seems my car had some hard launches in its past life as my old end link bolts were bent over about 20 degrees.
Just don't tighten those sway bar end brackets nuts (the ones that go on those shock mount plates) too much or you'll break off one of those studs that are swedged into the plate...ask me how I know

Go for it. I also found original C1 leaf springs; completely rebuilt them and installed them three weeks back....also replaced the radius rod bushings and hardware along with new bushing and links for the front sway bar. New shocks on all four corners finished the suspension work and wow, the car really rides, steers and handles much better.
BTW - there are torque specifications in the ST-12 for all of these items if you are a stickler for such things.
P.S. Make sure that rear sway bar kit comes with 4 rubber bushings...I'm only seeing two in the parts list. There are two on each end and another two that go in the center link brackets !!! (I have two extra if you get in a bind!)

Tom,
It is all about customer service and it was nice of you to jump in an acknowledge when a customer is critiquing. That is how exceptional businesses stand out from others (knowing the pros and cons). I have been building hotrods for years and just got into vettes, since the economy took a shot and the bottom fell out of hotrod sales. I have accounts in allot of businesses and Zip is by far one of the best. It is not always about saving a few pennies; customer service goes a long ways with my business.
Pass on my kudos to Zip management and they should also know you are doing a great job monitoring the vettes sites. That is an excellent idea!
