'67 Rally Wheels Fit A '61
I have a change to pick up a set of '67 rally wheels and wanted to have an extra set to fit the '61. Will the '67 rally's fit the '61 drums and have proper clearance? Thanks

Funny you should ask - I saw one today! Did not ask whether there were any clearance issues but it was a 61 with them on sure enough!

I studied this and wrote a post about biggest tires on a 61.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...ear-tires.html
Bought Summit rally wheels 15x7 5-4.75 with 4 inch backspace (5-4.75 is the bolt pattern spacing). Must be 4 inch backspacing, not 4.25
I think this is what mid-year cars used. Someone can verify. I was trying to maximize tire width. So used a 235/60R-15 tire.
I think you could use a rally with 4.25 back spacing, but would be limited to 215 width. On a 61, the tire vs. leaf spring clearance is the concern.

Bolt pattern, backspacing, etc. should be fine. The only problem comes from the hole size in the center of the wheels.
53-62 front hubs are larger in diameter than 63 and later hubs. To use 67 rallys, or any other 63 and later steel wheel on a 53-62, you'll have to enlarge the wheel center hole slightly.

i have 15x7 rally style wheels on my 62 with 4-1/2 backspacing and have no problems with 215x70x15 tires and can get a finger between the tire bulge and the rear spring leaf. all is going to depend on what tire size you use.

Me either my 67 ralleys fit on my 57. The only issue was the dust caps on the front spindles had to be tapped in because it hit the center of the cap on the 67 rally wheel.

A buddy of mine put a set of stock 69-82 15x8 rallys on his 61, and we had to open up the center holes on the front wheels, to get them over the hubs, and to seat them properly against the drums.
Another friend of mine had a 52 Chevy that he put a set of 15x7 Chevelle/Monte Carlo rallys on, and he had to open up his front wheels too (53-62 Corvettes use the same front hubs as 49-54 Chevys). I had to do the same when I put a set of later Chevrolet 15x6 steel wheels (and dog dish caps) on my 62.
By the way, good looking 62. It does seem that all Corvettes are red though, or at least 62's.
Your car does remind me a lot of my buddy's old 61, same wheels and same stance, though his 61 was Hondurss Maroon.

That's strange, as I've encountered this problem a number of times!

In the 70s I had 8" ralleys on mine and used the stock trim rings together with 13" corvair wire centers. I took off the corvair spinners and replaced them with Corvette spinners to create this look. I got a lot of puzzled looks and also a lot of complements on this combo. Had similar stance to yours. I do remember that I had to grind out the centers slightly to allow them to fit the front hubs.

(And IMO all the red ducktail C1s on this thread really need six taillights!)

Not 67 rally's but the rally's from my 67 Camaro wouldn't fit my 61 Vette, the center was smaller as posted earlier. It would be something to measure before you get them.

these particular wheels are rally style wheels made by WheelVintiques that i ordered through Summit ( http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WVI-30-5734042/ ). they are 4-1/2 bs which is the max i would recommend. here's a 4-1/4 ( http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WVI-30-5734044/ ) and a 4 ( http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WVI-30-573404/ ). i don't know what to tell you about a OEM wheel except to measure the width & backspacing and center hole of anything you contemplate buying.
and, again my 8" rallys fit my front spindles perfectly; i have no idea why the others had/have problems.

That interference between the later wheel and the early hub center is no big deal. I ran into that a few times in past years. The only tool I had to fix the problem was a big rat tail file.
I don't remember it being much trouble to make them fit but it did take a little filing.
