New shoes for the old vette...
When I first got my 66 about eight years ago it was the beginning of the resto rod hype. I did a lot of research on American Racing TTII's in 17" it took a while before I could find they would work. Well after posting what it took I got to see a lot of midyears wearing the same wheels as I had. It was cool because they look great but I don't care to be like the masses.
I've been looking for some new wheels for about two years to replace the TTII's and have been running gold lines and hubcaps for about that long. My criteria was that it have a forged hoop with sharp lines. I also stepped up in tire size to make sure that I could get some traction when I nailed it.
I came across these wheels from Vintage Wheel a few months ago and thought that this might just work. I ordered one to see if it would clear the brake calipers and they did so next was to mount up some tires. I had 225/50/17 on the car before and knew I could go a lot wider. Unfortunately the wheels had a 1/4" less backspacing so instead of 255 tires I ordered 235/55/17 tires. Nate and Ben from Just Tires in Holly Springs,NC were great with helping me out in fitting everything up.
The rears are tight and I may have to shave the fender lips but they look good.. What say the masses... should I have kept the TTII's or are the V40's from Vintage better?

Your car looks great but I think it looks better with goldlines and hubcaps.

I went first with the TT11's and then i went back to OLD.
I like the looks of the old style better.

Everyone has knockoffs on their cars but hubcaps are original and mostly what our cars came with. Here is a pic with them on the way to the Run to the Sun in Myrtle Beach, SC... 66 Hubcaps are definitely the pinnacle of hubcaps on these cars.
I do dig the larger wheels though because they just scream performance... You have to remember I'm 36 and I grew up with midyears and hot wheels... I dig that my car looks like one of the hot wheels I played with as a kid..

Looks good with all wheel configurations. Personally I like the new wheels the best. I would install flat center covers. I love the look of a midyear with the hard top. I'd like to see a picture with the hard top and the new wheels. I'll bet it looks great!

I like the new wheels. Way better than the TT II's
I agree with Sky on the flat center covers over center caps.

Lots of great options, wear what you like, when you like,
when (and if) you get bored, just swap, its all up to you
(by the way neat car! - whatever wheels you choose to wear)

Well?????? I think I would keep the original with caps and redlines for Sunday go to meeting dress, but I like the TT's with the mat centers, BUT, I would insist on centers of your choice, spinners, or cones.
It's tough, sorta like a gorgeous busty girl asking what bra looks better on her!
