Oil leak from bolt on top of intake manifold
Gentelmen:
There is a dime size puddle of oil on the passenger side of the intake manifold (probably 2nd or 3rd bolt). I prefer not to remove the manifold as if took me 10 years and 5 cars to learn that if is not broke dont fix it. Is there a easy solution like removing the bolt and putting telfon tape on it or yellow adhesive glue. Should I remove all the bolts and retorque and tighten in the sequence,,,or will that mess up the gaskets. The engine is original with 61K and never has been taking apart. I might have it rebuilt in 3 years. If there is an underlying problem as to why oil is coming out, I might be inclined to remove manifold.
Please advise.

The intake manifold bolt holes go into the lifter valley so oil will 'wick' it's way up the threads and leak on your manifold. If you do not want to remove the manifold you can remove one bolt at a time, clean with lacquer thinner (use a rag soaked with cleaner and a screwdriver to clean the threads in the head), coat the bottom 3-4 threads with hi-temp RTV and reinstall. Ya gotta wait a day prior to running it though so the RTV will set. And quit calling us 'gentlemen', you're scaring some of the kids here. :D

All the intake bolts (except the four at the extreme corners) go through into the lifter valley, and should have thread sealer on them to prevent the oil "wicking" Dave mentioned.

Thanks guys for you help.
I am 33 years old, and old ladies and young kids call me "sir". I feel old.
More importantly, picked up the vette from storage (sat for 5 months) last night and drove it at midnight 50 miles to my house w/o a problem. Ran sweet.

First sign of age when the people that you thought were not that much younger than you start calling you "sir." You're lucky to not having gotten that until 33.

I had the same problem with my '57 2x4. I put RTV on the threads as Dave mentioned and have not had a problem since.
You know you're getting old when you know all the answers, but nobody asks you the questions any more.
