Default 67 Battery Gauge Test

I have my battery gauge out of the dash and want to bench test it.

Can someone refresh my memory and tell me how to test it with a dry cell battery to insure that its working? (The how to's)

Thanks all.....Happy Holidays!

If its a 'volt meter, use a battery ....it should read the battery voltage just as if in the car...a amp meter {gauge} I believe the car would have to be running.....
